Frontenac Public Library

We're housed in the newly built Frontenac Public Library which includes a community room, a children's area, a young adult area, fiction and non-fiction stacks for adults, a computer room, and the immersive and interactive Heritage Hall Museum. It also includes a Spice Library, a Library of Things, and a wooden train children (and nimble adults!) can sit in. The FPL is open to all regardless of residency. Special events for all ages and storytime for youth are planned weekly!

Heritage Hall Museum

Immerse yourself in the history of the region: Step back in time to early-day Frontenac — you'll feel like you're walking down McKay Street at the turn of the last century! Explore memorabilia displayed in recreated storefronts and landmarks of early-day Frontenac including the Santa Fe Depot, a coal mine, union halls, Pallucca's Mercantile, the Frontenac Bakery, Washington School, and more. The museum is free.

Miners Park

NOW OPEN! This newly-built park across from our shop honors the town's coal mining history, including the Frontenac Coal Mine Explosion of 1888, with features like a bronze miner bust, brick pillars, and a town clock. It’s a community hub for events and activities. Benches, a fountain, shade trees, and a covered shelter provide a scenic spot to relax.

Wilderness Park

A 4-minute drive from our shop (1.5 miles due west on McKay Street), this formerly mined land has been reclaimed for outdoor enthusiasts. Hike or bike four miles of trails under a canopy of trees past strip pits, several of which are fishable. Most portions of the trails are beginner-friendly on foot, although on bikes some sections require climbing. Open sunup to sundown year-round. During summer months, bring bug spray. There is a map at the trailhead and a large gravel parking lot.
